I often talk about the “pillars of health”. There are perhaps up to nine pillars of health depending on how you define them. Nutrition and exercise are two; sleep is another. Actually, sleep is often overlooked and so many people just don’t get enough of it.
I came across this super simple recipe the other day. It involves bananas. So, what can I say about bananas? Well, bananas are high in potassium and magnesium. These are two elements which improve the length and quality of sleep. They also help to relax the muscles.
The banana skin also contains tryptophan which is an amino acid. This helps to produce serotonin and melatonin which are also key chemicals for sleep. As a brief aside, melatonin is produced when the sun goes down and helps to induce sleep. Looking at electronic devices which emit blue light inhibits the production of melatonin. This is bad for sleep.
1 x banana (that’s it!!!)
Wash the banana thoroughly with its skin on. Chop the ends off. Boil in water for 10 minutes. Strain and drink the “banana tea” and fall to sleep quickly.
